Fundación Montescola
The Montescola Foundation, formed in 2018, is a Galician organization dedicated to community conservation and the defense of nature. In recent years, it has developed educational materials on the impacts of mining and has worked intensively on community conservation, especially in the Froxán mountains.
One of its most prominent programs is the "Brigadas deseucaliptizadoras", an award-winning environmental restoration project that has mobilized 1,300 volunteers since 2018. These brigades are dedicated to removing pyrophytic species, mainly eucalyptus and pine trees, in Froxán, a small village with 100 hectares of communal land. They also restore mixed deciduous forests and peatlands, essential for the regulation of the local watershed, establishing a community-based conservation model.
