Freixo do Meio
Freixo do Meio, a farm located in the Alentejo region of Portugal, has long been a pioneer in organic and agro-ecological farming. Managed as a cooperative, the farm embraces a wide range of regenerative practices to restore the land and foster sustainable agriculture.
In collaboration with Life Terra, a tree-planting initiative has taken root on the farm, starting with the planting of 15 hectares in 2020 and Spring 2021.

Plot information
Life Terra and Freixo do Meio expanded the project with a plan to reforest the Novo-Montado plot, introducing 29,000 trees.
The primary goal is to create a green barrier of evergreen species to mitigate wind impact and improve the area's ecological resilience. The vision for the plot is a mixed-stratified Montado, planted at a high density, creating a sustainable and biodiverse forest ecosystem.
Soil
The soil in this area is typical of Mediterranean regions, with a tendency toward dryness, requiring species adapted to low water availability.
Tree Species
The planting includes traditional Montado species such as Cork oak, Holm oak, Stone pine, and Wild olive, alongside the Mastik shrub, chosen for their drought resistance and ability to thrive in arid conditions.
