FIEB

Fieb is a foundation focused on biodiversity studies and the conservation and restoration of natural spaces. Its work is diverse, ranging from restoring degraded areas to breeding critically endangered species like the European mink (*Mustela lutreola*), with only about 150 individuals estimated to remain in the wild in Spain. Fieb is also involved in reintroducing threatened species seized from illegal trafficking, such as red-tailed grey parrots (*Psittacus erithacus*), which are part of a historic recovery program.

Fieb is committed to improving ecosystems both nationally and locally. Located in the La Sagra region (Toledo), the foundation began its activities on land once dominated by abandoned olive groves, disused vineyards, and monocultures that heavily degraded the environment. One of the foundation's primary goals has been to restore these areas using native plant species, successfully reforesting around 5 hectares despite challenging soil conditions.

These efforts include planting alder, willow, ash, elderberry, and tamarisk along the stream and its banks, while oak, lavender, and broom species are being reintroduced into the lowland forests. However, logistical challenges and severe weather events, such as Storm Filomena and a 2023 summer flood, have hindered progress in some areas.

Fieb aims to continue these restoration efforts sustainably, optimizing available resources to further recover the local ecosystem in the coming years.
