Netherlands monitoring visit: 90% Survival Rate!
At Life Terra, planting trees is just the start of the journey. We’re deeply committed to ensuring they thrive and contribute meaningfully to restoring ecosystems and tackling climate change. That’s why we make it a priority to monitor the trees we plant, returning every few years to assess their growth and survival rates.
In November 2024, we drove to the east of the Netherlands to check the trees we'd planted at three different locations, back in 2022. We were delighted to see that at least 90% of our trees had survived, and most were doing extremely well!
The results of the tree are encouraging, with most showing fantastic growth. Among them, a group of lime trees stood out. These saplings, planted just two years ago at a modest two metres tall, had already grown to an impressive four metres. Such rapid growth highlights not only the resilience of lime trees but also the suitability of the site’s conditions. Even more remarkable was the fact that these limes had outgrown nearby birch trees, which are typically the star performers in mixed plantings.
Observations like these are invaluable, they show us how species respond to specific environments, help us refine our planting strategies, and demonstrate the long-term potential of reforestation projects. Healthy, thriving trees like these are more than just survivors; they’re carbon sinks, biodiversity havens, and a crucial step toward combating land degradation.
