Webinar: Life Terra´s first EU Green Week Partner Event
This year, Life Terra in collaboration with Pestana Hotel Group has organised their first EU Green Week Partner Event 2021: Algarve, reconciling tourism and the environment.
During the event, which took place on June 8th, participants could learn about the environmental impact travel and tourism have on ecosystems and how we, as travelers, can tackle it.
The event kicked off with a small video presentation about the project Life Terra before diving into the main subject: sustainable tourism. In Europe, tourism has a huge economical impact, absorbing 40% of the world tourism market, with over 700 million inbound tourists each year (before the COVID-19 crisis). For some European countries and regions, tourism represents the strongest industry. Therefore, reconciling it with the environment is imperative.
Tourism has the potential to contribute, directly or indirectly, to the Sustainability goals set by the UN and it needs to go towards helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, mitigating climate change, and contributing to innovative energy solutions in urban, regional, and remote areas.
Life Terra and Pestana Hotel Group also showed a short video shot last month in the Silves province of the Algarve, Portugal, where they explained on first hand the fires that the region suffered in 2018 and what activities they are developing to help restore the area. And, in relation to this, there was also a small interview video to Ms. Fernanda do Carme, Director of Territorial Development at the Portuguese Ministry, to asked her about what the Portuguese government has done to tackle the issue.
The online meeting also counted with the participation of Pedro Lopes, Corporate Regional Director Algarve at Pestana, Carlos Carvalho, Forestry and nature conservation specialist at FNYH, Cherelle de Graaf, Travel blogger and Content Marketeer for Goboony, the Airbnb of the camper world, Cristina Zygomalas, director of Communicazione Europe. 27 participants attended the online event.
