Landscouting in Almería, Spain

Last week, the Life Terra team went to Almería to meet Simon and Donna Beckmann, the owners of Cortijada Los Gázquez, a 20 ha ‘off-grid’ rural farm in the heart of the Sierra María-Los Vélez Natural Park. Together they run an international residency for artists and writers, called JOYA: AiR.

In 2009 the Beckmanns started a long road in the pursuit of restoring Los Gázquez and the land surrounding the farm. Their restoration project consists of creating a food forest, restoring the water catchment systems and general reforestation.

We were able to see first-hand the great work that the couple have been doing and how they are turning this property, once a degraded piece of land, into a beautiful forest.
