Huawei and Life Terra partner to jointly fight deforestation and clima
Huawei, one of the leading ICT companies serving over 3 billion people in over 170 countries worldwide and Life Terra, one of Europe’s largest climate action initiatives, are today announcing their cooperation to jointly implement actions to counter deforestation and thereby jointly fighting climate change. At the occasion of the Winter School for Female Leadership in the Digital Age held this week in Nice, Huawei and Life Terra have joined forces to cooperate in the areas of climate action through capacity building, tree planting activities by Huawei and by the European Leadership Academy, as well as harnessing digital technologies to monitor tree mapping across Europe.
Sven Kallen, Founder & Secretary, www.lifeterra.eu, said: “Life Terra seeks to bring people together, harnessing and monitoring nature’s own carbon capture mechanism and enabling citizens to take urgent action against the climate crisis. In this respect we’re proud to partner with the European Leadership Academy, empowering a new generation of leaders to not only bridge the digital divide but also to promote sustainability across all of Europe”.
Tony Jin, Huawei’s Chief Representative to the European Institutions, said: “Everyone needs to understand the causes and impacts of climate change, and be empowered to contribute to the solutions. How can we do this? Through partnerships. I am honoured to announce a new collaboration with Life Terra Foundation. Together we can fight climate change.”
Philip Herd, Director of Communications, Huawei EU, said: “Preserving biodiversity in Europe and across the world is a priority for tackling climate change as defined in COP26. Key to this is to prevent deforestation across Europe. This partnership between Huawei and Life Terra Foundation is a major step in helping to achieve this valuable goal”.
Giorgia Epicoco, Senior EU Public Affairs Manager, Huawei EU, said: “Education drives a sustainable digital age. The European Union has the most ambitious plan to tackle climate change and the European youth therefore has an important role to play to ensure our actions do not compromise the ability of future generations to meet their needs. This partnership is the result of a forward-looking approach where companies like Huawei can enable opportunities for youth engagement to fight climate change”.
