29th Edition of Festa dell'Albero 2024 with Elisa Toffoli

70 New Trees for a Greener Future in Spinea (Venice)

As part of Music for the Planet the campaign blending music, ecology, and community action, 70 trees were planted in Spinea's Parco Unità d’Italia, Venice, Italy, to combat climate change and enhance urban biodiversity.

Special guest Elisa Toffoli joined local schoolchildren and Legambiente volunteers in planting maples, oaks, willows, and fragrant shrubs like viburnum and hawthorn. These efforts support the Life Terra project and its European Tree Planting Day, fostering reforestation and climate awareness across Italy and Europe.

“Planting trees in urban areas is one of the most effective nature-based solutions to address multiple challenges. Trees improve soil permeability, reduce air pollution, absorb CO2, lessen noise, and mitigate the urban heat island effect, helping to regenerate public spaces. Today is not just a celebration of trees but of the many benefits urban reforestation offers. We are grateful for Elisa’s extraordinary support through Music for the Planet and her personal participation, highlighting the importance of collective action and urban reforestation in combating climate change.”

Luigi Lazzaro, President of Legambiente Veneto.

Local environmental officials also emphasized plans to create additional urban green spaces for a more livable and sustainable Spinea.

The Festa dell'Albero initiative, organized by Legambiente in collaboration with local schools, institutions, and businesses, is supported by donations through Music for the Planet and aims to inspire communities to take action. “Trees give us so much—now it’s our turn,” said Pierluigi Paloscia, President of Legambiente Miranese.
